Hey yey yey, what's going on

This is what my upcoming development plan looks like as of 7/10:

- priority 1: Finish the Scar
- priority 2: update the newbie experience
- priority 2a: more class design as August approaches
- priority 3: additions to the Invasion, and a new Vl'lak-related group dungeon

Priority 1 is obvious. Priority 2 has always been on the backburner, but I'm pushing it up the list since we are currently exploring some active advertising avenues to open our doors to new players.

Priority 2a is a constant one, of course, but I intend to work on it a little less until the Scar is released, and a little more afterwards (concurrently with newbie improvements).

Priority 3 is a combination of things: some new ideas I have for improving the Ruushi Invasion, as well as a sort of offshoot/replacement of the Twisted Divide. All of the structural work that I've implemented for the Invasion and Scar gives me a lot more options in terms of group dungeon design, and so I'm cannibalizing a lot of the Divide's old design work and molding something new from it which extends the Invasion story a little further. The Twisted Divide itself will be redesigned farther down the road, once I've had a chance to implement the Vl'lak-related dungeon to see what works well and what doesn't.

  1. Is there any chance the August 1st deadline for "no practice penalty class change" could be pushed back? I'm not sure who it would hurt to give people a couple more months to see the direction each class is going to go...

  2. I do not agree completely with that statement above. I see how the penalty is a good idea as it tries to strictly promote people from trying to jump on the bandwagon and explore classes to make the said player unique and different. Diversity is always good. As the game grows and classes are even out i don't see people having a problem with this.

But what i may disagree is a strictness. What if the player wants to try a few before they settle down? But you don't want them to be shifting from one to another but atleast be abit commited to the class? i reckon there should be a timer. Say a player is only allowed to class change a few times in a month. If they exceed that then a penalty will be place as the character gets tired and looses knowledge throughout the many transactions.

  3. Honestly, I quite like priority 2, and think that it's great that advertising campaigns are starting up.

My one concern though is still the silence flag. I get (or sorta get anyway) the necessity of it, but I still think it's going to be detrimental to a newbie's experience if they're silenced for 30 minutes when they start playing.

And let's face it, anyone so determined to spam Nodeka could still probably do so - just with 30 minute 'gaps' in between.

That said, I don't know if there's another viable solution, but I wonder if anyone else could come up with one.

  4. Maybe some sort of spam filter? If a new player spills onto globals every 1 second in 5 seconds - silence him/her?

  5. I'm sure it doesn't need to be said, but thanks for all the work you're putting into Nodeka Whim. I don't think I would have hung around as long as I have without some of your innovations, especially the invasions.

Also, please implement some more invasion eq if you get the chance--it's a lot of fun.

I'm not sure if this has already been discussed, but it'd be cool to have items that gave temporary enhancements to permanent eq. Like a spell or something you could apply to your weapon to give it fire damage for a week or two, or perhaps give your chest piece frost resistance, etc. There could be an NPC who gives you these spells/runes after you've completed a set number of invasions, as an aid to help you protect the city in the future.

Thought it'd be interesting and maybe give permanent eq something crafted eq doesn't have the ability to do, which would be nice for newbs who can't craft but do participate in invasions.

  6. I think u'r on to something bihzad. i like that idea.I speculate some where in the future there maybe be a way to give an affect to a targeted piece of eq as this is possible evident in cordons. Perhaps in scar? sequel to the invasion? who knows time will tell :P

All the work you have done is awesome. The game is definitely more fun. I think bringning newbies in is vital for the continued success of the mud and should be priority #1. I think rather than a silence for 30 minutes, they should get a prevent on global commands. Many muds make a newbie quest that be completed at level 10 for example that remove the block or prevent.

With regard to the class changing. It is killing me because I love monk, but still feel monk are UP compared to other classes I have played and like. I do like the idea of having a week of DECREASED costs to class changing mabey opposite of SU week each year.

  8. hehe kinda like boyd's idea on decrease cost of class change. maybe have a week in the month where demerit costs of class change is removed. say a blessing from a god or something. plays a little rp-feel into it :P

  9. It could have a jazzy name like "Time of Chaotic Winds".
