Featured Questions #4

Featured Questions time again - let's get into it! Remember, if you want answers, you gotta ask the questions - pop them in the comments section or e-mail them to me. The Featured Questions article runs every other Tuesday.

Featured Questions #4:

I'm curious as to how improved parry or improved dodge racial bonuses from races like sprite actually helps dodge or parry.

The avoidance abilities (dodge, parry, evasion, and now lesser evasion) aren't necessarily applied to every incoming attack. Avoidance generally works as follows:

1. Each avoidance ability has a chance to trigger on an incoming attack.

2. If the avoidance ability triggers, checks are made against external factors such as stat comparisons, ability masteries, and so on.

3. If the checks are successful, then the attack is avoided.

Improved parry and improved dodge each provide a chance to bypass step 1. Thus, if you were somehow able to obtain 100% improved dodge, you would have a chance to dodge every incoming attack (but a check would still be required for each). The trigger percentage currently cannot be affected by any other means and is low enough that improved parry/dodge provide quite significant benefits.

Evasion is based on willpower and spellpower... it's clearly not a stat/pool (ninjas) master whatsoever. Would that be a problem for the ninjas and a very minuscule improvement?

It's not an oversight; lesser evasion is balanced with the mindset that ninja will have to put in some extra training to make it truly shine, as compared to the caster version.

Is haste a spell that gives benefits over 100% practiced?

Yes; in fact, I think it may have been the first spell to ever do so (before training beyond 100% was introduced as a common method of advancement). It simply adds an extra speed per 10% of training. Not as flashy as some of the more modern options, but it does exist!

Here's my question: a pure platinum bar?

Here's my answer: back in spoils of war. =)

So question, somewhere in the future will there be a player driven economy system? E.g: unique character trade-profession (as most mmos have)?

Eventually, I hope to drive crafting in this direction with crafting specializations (something I've had planned forever, but I haven't been able to implement yet because of the care and foundational work which I feel are necessary in adding to the current crafting system). Currently, crafting is simply a "level up" system; specializations would differentiate people into chosen sub-professions. Beyond specializations, I have no other current plans regarding trade professions, but my comments box and e-mail inbox are always open to ideas. =)

Hello, I was told... that parry doesn't improve beyond 300% could you tell me if this is true or not?

Nope, this is untrue. Parry, dodge, evasion, and lesser evasion all improve in performance with every mastery point; there is no cap. In fact, there are no diminishing returns, either; the performance boost is linear (constant with each point). Don't believe the rumors and hearsay - if it sounds fishy, head straight to the Sixth Sense blog and click that comment button! =)

  1. I'd like to express my appreciation for your posts: *sends wave of loves to you and ALL Nodeka dwellers*

Are there any gambling systems on the table to be implemented? Even something as simple as spinning a wheel and betting on even or odd with 1:1 plat payouts would be awesome!

Handing in one jewel fragment at a time at Stacy is the closest thing to that I feel, and it is quite a rush :)

Bash+trip+lock in groups of 2 or more is on par with your feelings of certain major remort footpads ability to 'slow SM' and take down 'big' players. While lateral defense has been introduced as one means of defense for the footpad-pwn, an option other than 'just dying, stfu, deal with it, it's a pkmud, 2+ should pwn 1 big' I would like to see. Suggestions... counter-bash tactics, anti-lockable causing locker to drop weapons, untrippable naturally flying races. I'll keep thinking.... Looking for something to soothe the pwn than logging off or afkn regen or harsh criticism.

Are any updates or upgrades to rank affects in the works?

    Thanks xoxoxoxo :)

  2. Trip used to fail against flyers, which was just discriminatory against those classes that had it rather than bash, so that aspect was removed. Art of Imbalance used to counter that, not sure what it does now. Likewise, stun-immunity discriminated against Ninjas, because Ninjas were the only class that relied on Stun for full-impairments(every other class' impairments was unaffected except for Monks, who could simply switch to Temple Touch instead). Speaking of which, can we take Stun Immunity away from ranks as well?

  3. Considering: forgetful fire and the immunity: fire Jakaen change, your lines of thought on FF being - fire invulnerability 100% Thanks :D

  4. Will challs get more cometics? rooms that items will not fade from reboot (banks?), single way teleports, etc? :P

  5. "Eventually, I hope to drive crafting in this direction with crafting specializations"

Awesome! That would put so much more dynamic to the gameplay. And i agree it's too soon to have this implemented when everything is still so fresh. Eventually have that in when ppl are near the cap. I've got ideas on this and i'll have it place on the forum :P

  6. Anon you have no idea how awesome counter-attacks are till you fight someone who has massive damage output. Better leave FF alone

  7. Adding to "ignore opponent's natural resistance" or "halve opponent's natural resistance" or "altered destiny" what do you think about 'ignore quickness' as well?

  8. Anonymous: There's such a thing already. Being impaired pretty much screws over any class whose main defenses are Dodge/Quickness.

  10. Introducing Crafting Roulette! Where your roulette chips will be purchaseable with plats, gemstones, scraps, components, or experience points, and the payout will offer you the ability to acquire crafting materials at some fair and agreeable ratio.

Establishing some kind of credit line and banking would be pretty sweet too. In the same way we have the score sheet, we can use something similar for banking data. Or have banker NPCs in multiple booths. I think doing it the score-sheet-way we won't have to rely on created items to account for our play and inventory, just fields on a gaming sheet would sufffice.

I think this is a great alternative to solely running or competiting for goods, as well as something to do while regening or hanging out in Nodekaland. I think it can stir up conversation and will positively augment the social atmosphere.

Just some early stage ideas here, I'm sure others can add to the idea brew and Whim or N can stitch it all together into something functionable in a way we can all enjoy and come up with more ways to have fun. Thanks :P

  11. In addition to the things suggested for buy-in, how about using [unwanted] crafts as well? Crafts on the verge of fading or crafts made for tech attempts can be spent in this unique way. Also if you tried for a tech and fail, you can be awarded a free spin at the pegahorn-roulette-ponies. Sounds like fun times!

  12. Will Sigil Citadel ever be automated? And will we be looking at more of such events in the near future?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Will the tech lock be reduced from 18 hours in the future?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Izzral- if you automate the sigil citadel it will just become like the clan citadels.

The better question in my opinion is: could we have more citadel adventures in the near future?

Boss hunts, see who gets the most kills, etc.

  15. Question: Why are there diminishing returns to pool healing? Ive noticed that after ~60-65k, you no longer get 10% healing, even when sleeping in a healing room. It seems like there are diminishing returns the larger the pool also. It doesn't seem to be tied to base health either as I don't even get 10% of base health. Is there a reason for that?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well Odinn, i disagree with you slightly there. Well i can't predict the results, you might be true. But I see it differ as it gives a better incentive to do the sigil cit than a clan cit. If clan cits would offer a reward to the whole clan, a substantial reward, i reckon we can see more people joining that cit. Plus sigil cit has a more interesting play than hack and slash. Maybe clan cits need to be re-developed?

  17. Thraka- Pool regeneration rates:

Pools (health, mana, spirit and endurance) regenerate at the percentages shown
    in your score sheet.

However, once your pool regeneration rates exceed 5,000 per tick, a slightly
reduced regeneration algorithm is used: 33.3% of the amount beyond 5,000 is
    regenerated.

    Example:

    Health 50,000, regen rate 10% = 5,000 health regenerated
    Health 60,000, regen rate 10% = 5,333 health regenerated
    Health 70,000, regen rate 10% = 5,666 health regenerated
    Health 80,000, regen rate 10% = 5,999 health regenerated
    Health 90,000, regen rate 10% = 6,332 health regenerated
    Health 100,000, regen rate 10% = 6,665 health regenerated

For more information, see help on: health, mana, spirit, endurance.

  20. If I have evasion at 250% and 400 willpower, does my evaion prowess increase with 500 willpower? Does more willpower mean more evasion opportunities?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Re evasion,...

    Just as an example:
    I had 375% evasion, 35k sp/mana and 450'ish willpower,

my opponent has 10k sp/mana, not sure about his percentage but not higher then 350%..

when my opponent didn't have any crafted + willpower gear, my evasion totally outclassed his, but after my opponents willpower went past mine by only a few points, it rocked mine instead.. so yes.. more willpower = more evasion power and it's definitly what matters MOST for evasion..

I also believed the rumors about evasion being capped at a certain percentage, but after reading here I increased my evasion from 375% to 421% and maybe it's hard to tell but I don't see a big difference :)

I guess I'm better off finding willpower crafteds then practicing it ;)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Sigil cits: I wouldn't like to see these automated, they'd become what normal cits are now..

Clan cits: bigger rewards and for the whole clan is a great idea, maybe it'll make more people bother to join them, seems only a few are willing to give up botting, maybe it's cause they're lazy.. maybe cause they lose plat by stopping their run, give a small reward to everyone and a big reward to the winning clan, 1 component or a gemstone and maybe it'll be more appealing..

I also agree with Odinn that it would be really fun to see more variety in the citadel, most kills on players, most kills on randomly spawned mobs, bosses etc anything :)

  23. Sun stones or rp would be another great reward atm with multiclassing kinda costly :P

    ReplyDelete
  24. 1.) I would have to agree with Seraphim here. I've always felt that sun stones played a crucial role in character development and even more so now with everyone needing to augment to progress. Any plans on implementing more ways to acquire these?

2.) Any thoughts on removing the algorithm used for obtaining a sun stone when your RP points are beyond 10k? I don't see why keeping it the same 100 RP per sun stone would be game breaking, especially with the reasons I mentioned in question 1.

3.) How does racial damage work? I remember discussing in the past that racials don't scale with percentages. e.g. a svirfneblin witch with 250% mental blast doesn't gain a damage modifier from that 250% practiced. However, would the racial scale with your stats? e.g. a wizard with blackfrost cloudburst racial would get more damage out of it than say a footpad because the wizard has ~600 wisdom as opposed to the footpads ~350 some or is the racial damage just capped dependent on your level?

    Thanks for any responses.

  25. When are warlocks going to be renamed to willlocks? Coz they seem to rely just on willpower. I think it's fair to call them so we don't get misled by thinking their OP.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Does evasion allow you to evade round-wise damage - like the 15 of 15 incoming attacks?

    ReplyDelete
  27. @Anonymous: Yes. It will block racial attacks, and in the case of racials that mimic skills(eg, Thrust Kick/Kick), it will give the same message. Otherwise, it is "You simply evade XXX's left/right *insert weapon/hand type name*"

    ReplyDelete
  28. Questions:

    1. How is the precedence of altered attack types determined?

E.g. I'm a ru wulniothe fallad and have 100% spiritual attacks with creed of the gods volition, and 64% frost attacks from race, do I ever get any frost-based attacks? What if my spiritual attacks were under 100%?

    2. Why do empowered inscriptions only last for 1 use of the ability, causing the aura to shift immediately? Seems pretty harsh since a. most empower attempts fail and b. on a successful empower, the aura doesn't last very long in the first place.

Response to Anonymous re: evasion on natural attacks:

Yes, evasion does let you block those attacks, try turning 'output compress enemy attacks' off.

E.g. You simply evade a large, black dragon's right claw!

  29. oh, another question - why is the affect you get when you fail a trade with Gerahf so long (4 days)? seems like a severe punishment for making a typo. a couple hours would be more appropriate imo.

    ReplyDelete
  30. In invasions, if you hit something smaller than you and don't kill it before you get jailed, when you come out of jail, it hunts you down and hits you and sends you right back (unless someone else kills it). This can result in a cycle of permanent jailing. Can it be fixed to clear the player from the mobs agg list if the player is jailed for hitting the mob and the mob is too small?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Dreslin:

Valerius, it can be fixed by making a better deal with him. The same effect happens when you make ANY trade with him IIRC. Just that if you fail the trade, his 'opinion' of you will either be neutral or bad in accordance to how much you offered.

    TO Whim:

Is it possible to do a toggleable mode in which, if were wielding weapons and did something like 'toggle barehands', they strike with bare fists for regular attacks despite having weapons equipped. Logically, it is common for weapons 'to have sheathes'. Toggle it off with weapons equipped would you attack with regular weapons again.

    ReplyDelete
  32. that last comment must have came from a monk...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anonymous:

"The same effect happens when you make ANY trade with him IIRC."

    You don't remember correctly. :P
It only happens on failed trades. I just did around 20 (successful) trades with Gerahf and didn't get any affects.
